A blend of art, sharing and emotion: a memorable exhibition opening with a Peruvian theme

The launch of the new exhibition ‘AXE PÉROU-TOULOUSE’, organised by the Alliance Française in Toulouse, brought together a large audience to celebrate art, friendship and international relations, thus marking the start of our cultural season.

The AXE PÉROU project was launched in 2018 following a meeting between the Consul General of Peru in Paris and Peruvian artists living in France. The first exhibition of these artists’ works took place in 2019. It will go on tour to several major French cities where there are Peruvian consulates, such as Lyon and Strasbourg…

It was Ms Josselyn Zeballos, Honorary Consul of Peru in Toulouse (and a former student of our school), who proposed a partnership to the AF in Toulouse to organise and host this event.

Today, in September 2026, our AF is delighted to present the exhibition ‘AXE PERU-TOULOUSE’. We are very pleased to be showcasing contemporary Peruvian artists; the exhibition features a wide variety of styles and techniques, such as painting, textile art, screen printing, digital art, engraving and imposing altarpieces… and we are at the heart of cultural exchanges with Peru and its representative bodies in France and Occitanie.

Our opening night was attended by the President of the Toulouse AF, Mr Jean PIERRE, and the two consuls, Mr. Carlos BRICEÑO and Mrs Josselyn ZEBALLOS and the Deputy Mayor of Toulouse responsible for International Relations, Mr Djillali LAHIANI. The exhibition curator, the artist GAbO, provided a behind-the-scenes look at the creative process and revealed some of the secrets behind the works on display. A number of artists based in Occitanie travelled to the event, much to the delight of the audience.
Then it was time for some socialising: the guests were treated to a Pisco Sour, the famous Peruvian cocktail, served by the consulates. Two artistic highlights punctuated the evening: a performance of traditional music on the guitar by the artist Mila Huapa followed by a demonstration of Northern-style Marinera by a couple of dancers from the’Toulouse Latin Folklore Association.
This festive and warm atmosphere won over the audience, and many guests stayed on until late into the evening.
The guest book bears witness to the enthusiasm generated by the evening: « An interesting insight into the country and its artists », « a great opportunity to get to know Peru and its culture », or again: « Peruvian culture is a culture of love and the celebration of diversity »…

Peru–Toulouse AXE: 17 September 2026, the opening

The following day, the exhibition curator led a mediation cultural for students from the Toulouse AF, who have come to see the exhibition for themselves.
Other schools within the Toulouse Academy, as well as Spanish teachers, are already expected to visit with their pupils and students throughout the exhibition, which runs until Monday 5 October.
