Are you looking for a job, a student job or an opportunity to do voluntary work whilst you’re in France? The options available to you depend, in particular, on your nationality and your residence permit. Here is a practical guide to help you understand the procedures and discover the main resources available in Toulouse and across France.

Working in France: check your immigration status first

Before you start your search, it is essential to check the rights associated with your visa or residence permit. The conditions for accessing employment are not the same for nationals of the European Union, the European Economic Area or Switzerland as they are for students from other countries.

The official website France-Visas allows you to view information relating to the student visa and the conditions for staying in France:
https://france-visas.gouv.fr/etudiant

Young people in certain countries may also be eligible for a Working Holiday Programme (WHP), which allows you to stay in France whilst working for a limited period:

For those wishing to take part in a volunteering programme within a specific context, the France-Visas portal also provides information on volunteer visa :

The platform Jobs in Toulouse Métropole brings together job vacancies in the area and connects jobseekers with local businesses:
https://emploi.toulouse-metropole.fr

Students can also view the advertisements published by the network of CROUs, which regularly advertises jobs that are compatible with studying, across a range of sectors:
https://www.lescrous.fr/offres-emploi/

The «Finding a Job» guide from the CRIJ (Regional Youth Information Centre) provides practical advice on organising your job search, writing a CV and a cover letter, preparing for an interview and identifying sectors that are recruiting students. It is a particularly useful resource for those looking for their first job in France:
https://www.crij.org/fr/page/travailler/guide-trouver-un-job.php

For new arrivals, the association SEE (Support, Studies and Employment) provides a very comprehensive guide listing numerous recruitment platforms categorised by sector (IT, healthcare, manufacturing, hospitality and catering, retail, etc.):

Volunteering: a rewarding experience

Volunteering allows you to get involved in local life, practise French in a real-life context, develop new skills and meet people from all walks of life.

The public platform JeVeuxAider.gouv.fr, run by the Réserve civique, lists thousands of volunteering opportunities across France in a wide range of fields: community support, culture, the environment, sport, education and support for vulnerable people.
https://www.jeveuxaider.gouv.fr
